SWiNG trap workflow is a collection
of pre-defined tools, each tool executes specific actions on incoming
files and then moves them to the following tool in the workflow. In most
cases, the tools settings will be setup by a workflow administrator through
the Editor module, although settings can also be modified by authorised
operators on desktop systems. This facility allows editing of settings
to adapt them to custom output file requirements without changing the
original workflow.
Features
- pre-flight checking of Postscript and PDF files
- auto-trapping of CMYK and special colours
- trap viewing and editing
- generation of high-quality trapped digital files:-
- PostScript level 1, 2 or 3
- DCS 1 or 2
- PDF level 1.2, 1.3 or X-1
- TiffIT/P1 files
- distribution and/or compression of resulting digital files to archive
and/or additional workflow

input files
At the beginning of the workflow, this tool tells SWiNG trap how to deal
with incoming files. The input files tool gives control over file naming
where special characters can be substituted to avoid unrecognised character
problems, or dependent on file name, the workflow to be used and final
transmit destination.
ps/pdf check
A preflight checking process where input files are interrogated for errors.
SWiNG’s ps/pdf check settings covers all
common input file errors such as low resolution images, missing OPI links,
incorrect colour space, missing fonts etc., whilst also allowing automated
correction or manual intervention. Any errors not specified to be automatically
corrected are held for validation. Unlike standard preflight tools, SWiNG’s
ps/pdf check interrogates files in the way a RIP would process them, so
if it passes ps/pdf check, it images.
autotrap
The heart of the workflow, the autotrap tool, allows the creation of unlimited
ink sets and trapping rules on the SWiNG server, which are then assigned
to input folders or selected from desktop systems for specific file trapping.
Each ink within a set, including any special colours, is assigned a luminance
value. SWiNG uses these values to spread and choke colours accordingly.
The trap rule lets you define the spread and choke widths of all objects
within a page, there are also advanced trap settings to specify how different
object types such as images and vignettes should be handled. So by selecting
an ink set and trap rule an unlimited number of autotrap processes can
be configured and saved. Once established ink sets and trap rules can
be opened and adjusted to quickly build new ones with development time
kept to a minimum through the use of LiTHOtrap to view the results without
having to commit to hardcopy output.
validate
The validate tool halts the workflow, if required, to allow autotrap file
viewing
and/or editing.
lithotrap
This powerful module is a trap viewer, with zooming functions, a densitometer
and the has ability to display transparency of the autotrap layer. With
LiTHOtrap an operator can undertake manual editing of trap objects,
changing their colour, density and shape whilst also having the ability
to delete or add trap objects. This flexible tool brings a new level to
automatic trapping by delivering material and rework savings as it allows
trap revision before committing to final output.
output
When it comes to digital artwork production DALiM’s p2 technology
delivers true openness to industry standard formats, automatically ensuring
faster, error-free output for “right-first-time” production.
From level 1 RIPs through to the latest developments, SWiNG has the tools
to communicate in the past, present and future, protecting your investment.
Many aspects of an output file can be specified including: image resolution,
vignette type, conversion of text to curves, the level of PostScript,
whether a file should be composite or separated, how to deal with trapping
and more.
output ps/dcs
Composite or pre-separated files in PostScript level 1, 2 or 3, and/or
DCS1/ DCS2... the choice and flexibility is yours.
output pdf
Unique multi-level pdf output with support for levels 1.2 or 1.3, even
pdfX1 for reliable delivery of digital data in, for
example, digital advertising submission.
output tiffit/p1
SWiNG has the ability to output Tiff/IT.P1, a standard in file format
exchange in instances where absolute file integrity
takes preference over all else.
transmit
When the output process has finished the transmit tool takes over, ready
to take your files to their next stage. Automatically compress, rename,
archive locally, ftp upload to a remote site or even move to another SWiNG
workflow.
